11月29日 H O N G K O N G is da BOMB!Hong Kong was amazing and I was so happy to be able to be a part of my friend's wedding ceremonies (yes, plural!!). My friend Alice and I had the smallest hotel room in the world and had to share a bed (which we believe confused the hotel staff immensely) but we were able to survive the week without killing each other. For the first three days, I ate dim sum and tried to eat as much dim sum as I could after that. It's just so damn good.
I had some interesting menu choices which elicit raised eyebrows when I mention them: tripes (my favourite), shark fin soup and pigeon. They were all delicious. Considering how much I hate pigeons it was great revenge to eat one of those suckers. Surprisingly delicious... same taste as chicken with the colour and texture of turkey (dark meat). Yummy yummy yummy - I will never look at a pigeon the same way again. If they don't watch their step, they're gonna end up in my belly.
Our trip consisted of sight seeing around the city, the two wedding ceremonies, shopping, shopping, shopping, more shopping, Macau, 3-hour massages in mainland China and eating dim sum. It was a good time. The pictures are there to have a look at. More pictures and trip details are available at http://masterplan3.spaces.live.com/. I have some really great friends in Hong Kong and should I ever decide to actually move there - which I'm thinking about for next year, by the way - I know it'll be a good time. Hong Kong seems to have a lot more opportunities for an English speaker than Korea does (especially in my field) and is a lot more international. It was kind of like going home because everyone spoke English and there were people from all over the world there and yet, it was still very much Chinese. It was almost a perfect blend of old world and new world - though I would have liked to have seen a little more traditional architecture in the city. With land at a premium, I guess it's hard to justify keeping older buildings that can't house thousands of people.
The buildings were very tall - for example, Lettice & Vic live on the 42nd floor of their building - and people still hang their clothes out to dry outside the windows. It's incredible to see these buildings, old and new, with wet jeans, t-shirts and socks adorning the facade. Hong Kong really is beautiful and I recommend it as a good vacation spot. It's extremely hectic and noisy but so lively and exciting. Definately a place I'll have to live in before I leave this planet.
Lots of love,
- Pam 11月6日 Easy come... easy goY bueno... ya lo he dicho muchas veces. (Fotos vienen.)
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times... when we live abroad, the friends we meet and become our family leave us all too quickly. A year goes by quickly and within the next month or so, good friends of mine will be returning home for the holidays. They have all promised me they will return but sometimes life throws us surprises. On Saturday, we got together to bid farewell to my bestest buddy here in Korea, Bryan. My amerindian, mexican-wanna-be friend will be returning to his homeland for the holidays but will hopefully return in the new year. I will miss him dearly because who else is going to talk to random Korean people on the street with me - i.e. who else is going to interpret my pidgin Korean into actual Korean? Here are some pictures. Last week, two dear friends also left Korea - Ben & Karen, aka Ken & Baren. They are the sweetest couple and will be traveling Asia for a month before heading home for the Christmas holidays. They, too, will be missed. (Fotos to follow.)
Lots of love and kisses - besos y amor! - et bisous! |
