Autumn in Korea

I was told a few weeks ago that the "sky gets high" in the Fall in Korea. And you know what? It really does. The sky opens up... there are very few clouds, the sky is blue and the air is very fresh. The colours seem so vivid and the sun is brilliant. It's been really a lovely beginning of Autumn. The days grow colder but my heated floors (bless Korea!!) are wonderful.

Enjoy the Autumn and all its glory.

Thanksgiving In Seoul

I spent an entire weekend in Seoul. My friend Michelle was a gracious host and let me and my friend Marie crash at her place for the night.

We went to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea's Thanksgiving Dinner which took place in the Grand Hilton Hotel. It was all very fancy dancy with an ice sculpture to prove just how fancy dancy it was... but read the inscription closely. I love Thankgiving! We had a fabulous turkey dinner with all the fixings - things we normally wouldn't be able to find in Korea. What a treat.

After the formal evening, only after they had run out of wine, we headed to a bar called JJ Mahoney's. It's located in the basement of the Hyatt Hotel over-looking the pool and Seoul's night lights. It was quite beautiful and it was nice to step outside into the chilly air after a bit of dancing.

The next day, we went to see Bomba! play at the Seoul Drum Festival. Bomba! is an Edmonton latin-jazz group who's percussionist I grew up with... we Chileans gotta support each other's endeavours, ya know?! So there I was, being a groupie in yet another city... this is city number four - how sad! I also caught a great Korean group of drummers - Korean drumming is off da hook!

From there, we met a good friend of Michelle's for dinner and headed home. It was the longest train ride of my life. Seoul's transit system can be a bit confusing but we ended up home in one piece. No worries!

All in all, a good Thanksgiving weekend. The weather was great and I couldn't have asked for better company. I hope everyone's Thanksgiving went well. Gobble, gobble!

Night Out in Suwon

People in Suwon are too funny! We went out on Saturday night to a young & fun area of town and came across a great group of people. I happened to have my camera on me and thought it'd be fun to see how many people would pose for pictures... well, guess what?.. almost every table was willing to pose. Once we took the picture with these anonymou people, they'd offer to pose with us and then offer us a swig of Soju.

This would never happen at home! Koreans are such a hoot!
